How to turn your water supply off

If in the event you need to turn your water supply off, do you know where your stop cock is and is it possible to use it?

Over time stop cocks can seize up and become inoperable, it is advised to check the stop cock at least yearly. Please seek advice if you find the stop cock is not operational.

If you are on a water meter check its location as you can also turn your water supply off at the meter.

You can also turn off a property’s supply at the next stop down in the street usually under a cover so make sure you know where it is, however a word warning this may not just affect your household if you decide to turn your water supply off here and you may need a special key from your local authority.
